How to use it

Step 1 — Shake & unlock. Shake well, then press the side-stopper on the pump to unlock the sprayer.

Step 2 — Spray in sections. Spray evenly onto your scalp and along the length of your hair, working in sections so the scalp gets proper coverage.

Step 3 — Massage it in. Massage into the scalp in circular motions for about a minute - this helps absorption and boosts circulation. Leave it in, no rinsing needed.

Then pick your routine:

  • Overnight treatment — spray onto scalp and hair before bed, massage in, and leave overnight. Wash out in the morning. Use 2-3 times a week.
  • Leave-in treatment — after washing, spray onto towel-dried hair, massage gently and leave on. Safe for daily use.

Why It Works

RiceMary uses a dual-action approach. Rosemary works on the scalp, where hair growth begins, while rice water conditions and strengthens the hair itself. Because the two ingredients do different jobs, they suit being combined in a single leave-in spray.

Rosemary — scalp and follicle health. Rosemary contains active compounds such as carnosic acid and 1,8-cineole, which are believed to support microcirculation and nerve health in the scalp — better blood flow means hair follicles can receive more oxygen and nutrients. In a 2015 randomised clinical trial (Panahi et al., published in Skinmed), rosemary oil was compared with 2% minoxidil solution in people with androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss). After six months, both groups showed a similar increase in hair count, and the rosemary group reported less scalp itching. Rosemary is also a natural antioxidant with antimicrobial properties, which can help soothe irritated, flaky or itchy scalps and keep the scalp environment clean and comfortable for hair growth.

Rice water — structural strength. Rice water contains starch, vitamins, amino acids and a carbohydrate called inositol. Laboratory research suggests inositol can penetrate damaged hair fibres and help repair them from the inside. The starches and proteins in rice water also coat the outer layer of the hair (the cuticle) like a light conditioner, reducing surface friction, improving elasticity and helping prevent breakage during brushing and detangling.

Why they work together. Rosemary focuses on the living tissue — the scalp and the follicle — while rice water protects and reinforces the hair shaft, which is made of non-living protein. Between them, the spray looks after hair from root to tip. Delivering it as a water-based spray gives the scalp benefits of rosemary without the heaviness of pure carrier oils, alongside the conditioning benefits of rice water — supporting the non-greasy, fast-absorbing, no-residue positioning of the product.

Evidence strength: rosemary is supported by one small clinical trial plus supporting laboratory research; rice water is supported mostly by laboratory and hair-friction studies, with limited clinical data on hair growth specifically.

Where it comes from

RiceMary brings together two very old hair care traditions: East Asian hair-washing rituals and Mediterranean herbal practice.

Rice water, from East Asia. For centuries, women in China and Japan have rinsed their hair with the starchy water left over from washing rice. The Red Yao women of Huangluo Village in Guangxi still keep the tradition today and are known for floor-length, dark hair well into old age. In Heian-period Japan (794 to 1185 CE), court ladies used it to care for their famously glossy, floor-length kurokami.

Rosemary, from the Mediterranean. Native to the rocky coastlines of the Mediterranean, rosemary was prized by the ancient Greeks and Romans. By the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, European herbalists were widely recommending rosemary rinses to beautify the hair and soothe the scalp.

Why it's different

Rosemary care only pays off if you keep it up. Greasy oils make that hard.

Most people start a rosemary oil routine with good intentions. Then come the greasy roots, the flat hair and the wash-out step, and the bottle ends up at the back of the cupboard.

That was never about your effort. It was a routine that was hard to live with.

RiceMary puts rosemary and rice water into a water-based, oil-free mist. It's tested non-greasy, so you can use it every day and get on with your morning.

  • Water-based and oil-free
  • Tested non-greasy
  • No rinsing as a daily leave-in
  • Suitable for coloured hair
  • Sulphate Free
  • Paraben Free
  • Dermatologically Tested
  • Cruelty Free
  • Phthalate Free
  • Alcohol Free

What to expect

A journey, not an overnight switch

Hair doesn't change overnight, and we won't pretend it does. If used consistently as an overnight treatment a few nights a week, or leave it in during the day, your hair will feel and look like never before. Here's your rough timeline.

Before

Visible hair thinning, hair fall, reduced density and sparse areas on the scalp

Week 2

Natural extracts support scalp nourishment and reduce hair fall & breakage

Week 4

Fine baby hairs begin appearing in thinning areas as hair density gradually improves

Week 8

Visible improvement in hair density with fuller-looking coverage across thinning areas

Key ingredients

Two ingredients doing most of the work

Both grounded in traditional use, both reformulated into a lighter, better-balanced spray.

Rosemary Extract

Naturally derived, rosemary extract helps improve scalp circulation and creates a healthy environment for hair growth. It works to strengthen roots and reduce hair fall, supporting fuller, thicker-looking hair over time.

Rice Water

Rich in nourishing nutrients, rice water strengthens hair from root to tip. It improves softness and shine, smooths rough strands, and helps reduce breakage.

Before you ask

The questions we actually get

No — it's a light, fast-absorbing spray, not an oil. Spray it on in sections, massage it into the scalp, and it works in without leaving a heavy residue behind. If you're using it as a leave-in, a little goes a long way.

Shake well, then press the side-stopper on the pump to unlock the sprayer. Spray onto your scalp and along the length of your hair in sections, then massage into the scalp for about a minute. Leave it in — no rinsing needed. Use it as an overnight treatment 2–3 times a week, or as a daily leave-in after washing.

It's built around rosemary extract and rice water, two ingredients with a long track record for scalp and hair health, in a better-balanced formula than the versions that made them popular online. Used consistently, most people notice fuller, healthier-looking hair over time — it isn't an overnight fix, and we won't pretend it is.

The full ingredients list is in the accordion above — nothing hidden. It's sulphate free, paraben free, dermatologically tested, cruelty free, phthalate free and alcohol free.

The 60-day risk-free trial is about whether you like it: return it in that window for a full refund, for any reason. Separately, if anything arrives faulty, contact support and we'll sort out a replacement.

Free shipping Australia-wide, with delivery in 5–9 business days.
